Students were transferred to either Berkeley or Berkeley West public schools when enrolments at the school, which opened in 1962 at the corner of Essex and Sussex streets, had been steadily falling as the demographics of the area had changed. The decision in early 2009 put the school into recess during 2010 and was eventually sold in early 2013
